Pennie Cunliffe-Lister AOI (Association of illustrators)
I was born in Staffordshire, April 16th 1953, in RAF Cosford to an Army family.
I lived abroad as a child and travelled a great deal. I was educated at Westmount School, in Montreal and Northwood College in London.
I have always loved painting and drawing and have loved cartooning since a very early age.
I studied Landscape Architecture at Thames Polytechnic in Ravenscourt Park, Hammersmith, London in the 1970s. I have worked at the Tate Gallery before it became Tate Britain, for the Keeper of Exhibitions: for the Reader in Architecture at The Bartlet, University College, London: Cassels and Studio Vista where I was a free lance Picture Researcher and was the founder of the Photo Library at Country Life Magazine.
I am a member of the Association of Illustrators, AOI.
I live in Eastbourne where I have a wonderful spacious art studio and have taken part in many exhibitions as well as holding my own in the studio.
I have painted for large corporations and hospitals, private individuals, Royalty and the not so Royal, the famous and the not so famous.

The greatest compliment anyone can pay me as an artist is when they buy a painting that I have created and then hang it in their own personal space and live with it.
I paint moments in time that appeal to me – quirky subjects - such as an enormous glass jar of vibrant red strawberry sweets or a beaming French lady cooking crepe for me at the Fair in Dieppe: the effervescent musicians of the steel band at Shirley Heights in Antigua.
I use many different media to convey my chosen subject – oil, acrylic, water colour, inks, crayon and pastel. I use whatever I think will most effectively describe my theme.
My work has developed and evolved unintentionally over time from all manner of different subjects that have caught my imagination. I don’t find it easy to explain my work because I feel when I paint a picture then hopefully it speaks for itself and is whatever the viewer wishes to take from it. There is no right or wrong message. Everybody takes something a little different from my work and that makes me content
